edinburgh people's festival

August Festival 2009
This year's August People's Festival included an arts competition on the theme 'Let The People Speak' with £1,000 in prize money available to local artists; an award winning exhibition funded by the National Lottery that tells the story of the Edinburgh People's Festival from its origins in the 1950's to the present day; the Radical Walk - a guided tour of 'that radical Edinburgh all too often overlooked'; the Rebus Tour - visits to landmarks made famous in Ian Rankin’s inimitable ‘Rebus’ novels; a concert inside Saughton prison; the 2nd Annual Hamish Henderson Memorial Lecture; the launch of a book celebrating the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth; a Comedy Night in Gorgie; and a grande finale evening with our 'Songs Of The People'.
